7 Sleeping with Rattlers on the Continental Divide
As evening closed in we realized the rest stop was swaming with Rattlesnakes.

At least we were warned. Quickly we got out of the van and into the ‘Cabin’, trailer. Ron bbq’d outside in a darling cement adobe style picnic shelter, with one eye on the ground, while I watched from the doorway. Since we were on the Contential Divide it was cooler at the 4000+ elevation. With open louvered windows we slept like babies.
Heading out after our 5 grain cereal we drove through another check point along highway 2. We could tell they were checking for illegal’s as I saw the white collection trailers on either side of the road… Ron says it is encouraging to see the ‘forces’ out. .. this is a border control even though it’s quite a ways from Las Cruses.
The crows or ravens in this area are huge and very agressive… with the garbage cans. Note the spread all over and how they are sitting waiting for the next drop.
We are in New Mexico headed toward Santa Fe. Never been there and loving the little travel trailer… we just stopped for lunch and a cup of tea.. we picked up Armenian
Cracker bread in Fresno plus delicious Armenian hummus (best I’ve tasted) and Armeanian string cheese .. so different than the stuff at the grocery. Pure white and twisted like a hank of yarn.
Crossing the Rio Grande was much like crossing the Jordon in Israel. Very refreshing and cool looking but not what I’d call ‘Grande River”.
Gerry has called to say he has secured a place a
t the foot of the ski basin at Santa Fe. We should pick up some firewood as it will be cold at 7000 ft. which it higher than Denver! I didnt’ know that.. We’re really eager to get there and enjoy tomorrow enjoying our friends Gerry and Danielle as well as the town we have heard is beautiful.
